Transportation
to and from the Prague Airport
If you're coming to Prague to do some sightseeing and plan to use public transport, consider buying the Prague Visitor Pass, which provides access to many Prague's historical monuments, museums and galleries, as well as unlimited travel on Prague public transport, including from and to the airport. |
The
Prague airport is located about 15 km/9 miles from
the city center. It takes approximately 25 - 30
minutes (40 minutes in heavy traffic) to reach
the center by car and about 30 minutes on public
transport (bus + subway).
After you get off your flight in
Prague, you will have several options of arriving at
your destination: public
transport, taxi/Uber,
a shuttle
company, or a pickup
previously arranged with your hotel.
Public transportation provides the
cheapest way of getting to downtown Prague. It is easy
to use, clean, reliable, and runs frequently. Taking
public transport will involve some walking and the buses
and subway can be crowded at peak hours, so if you have
a lot of luggage, you may want to take a taxi/Uber or use a
door-to-door transfer service.
Public Transportation from and to
the Prague Airport
Taking
public transport is the cheapest way to get
to and from the Prague airport. The ride costs 40
CZK (100 CZK on the Airport Express bus - see below)
and the transit system is quite easy to use.
Please watch your valuables if you're on public transport from or to the airport. It's hard not to look like a tourist on the airport route, especially if you carry luggage and speak a foreign language. You're also more vulnerable to pickpockets if you're distracted and have your hands full.
To
take public transport, you will need a ticket for 30 CZK (valid for 30 minutes) or 40 CZK (valid for 90 minutes), which you can buy at the Public Transport
Information booth at the airport or directly from the
bus driver (he will charge you a little more). See our Tickets
& Passes page for more information about Prague
public transport tickets.
It is necessary to buy a separate ticket for each piece of luggage larger
than 25 cm x 45 cm x 70 cm (10 in x 18 in x 28 in).
The only means of public transport
that currently serve the Ruzyně airport are
the trolleybus and bus.
Trolleybus 59 runs between the Ruzyně
Airport and Nádraží Veleslavín metro
station (metro line A). This bus is the best choice
if your destination is in the historical center of Prague
(the Old Town, Lesser Town, New Town, Prague Castle area)
or anywhere along line A of the metro including the
Vinohrady and Žižkov districts. Connections run
every 7 to 20 minutes and the ride takes 13 to 17 minutes.
Trolleybus 59 leaves from outside the Arrivals terminal and runs
from early morning hours until around midnight. It will take you to the Nádraží Veleslavín metro
station on line A. From there, you can take
the metro using the same ticket to continue to your destination.
The metro will get you to the center in no time (6 - 8
stops, depending on where you're going). The most popular
metro stations on the route are: Malostranská -
Lesser Town (Malá Strana), Staroměstská - Old
Town (Staré Město), Můstek - bottom and middle
of Wenceslas Square, Muzeum -
top of Wenceslas Square.
Take line A of the metro to Nádraží Veleslavín and then follow signs for the airport.
Trolleybus 59 leaves from near the station exit and runs from
around 5 a.m. until around midnight.
The airport is at the end of the line and the bus stops
at all the terminals - 3 (private flights), 1 (flights to non-Schengen countries), and 2 (flights to Schengen countries). Announcements are made
in English at the terminals.
Bus 100 runs between the Ruzyně airport
and the Zličín metro station (metro line B). Take
this bus if your destination is near any of the metro stations
on line B, such as in the New Town (Nové Město) or Smíchov
districts. The bus runs every 15 minutes
during the day and every 30 minutes after 7 p.m. The ride
takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Bus 100 leaves from outside the Arrivals terminal and
runs from early in the morning until around midnight. It
will take you to the Zličín metro station,
which is the last stop. From there, you can take metro B
using the same ticket to continue to your destination.
Once you get on the metro, expect the ride to take about
20 minutes (11 - 13 stops) to get you into the center.
Some important metro stations on the route are: Anděl -
Smíchov District, Karlovo náměstí - Charles Square, Národní
třída - Národní Avenue, Můstek -
bottom of Wenceslas Square, Náměstí
Republiky - Republic Square, Florenc - main
bus station.
Take line B of the metro to Zličín and
get on bus 100, which runs from early in the morning until
around midnight. The airport is at the end of the line
and the bus stops at all the terminals - 1,
2, and 3.
The Airport Express is a special
bus that connects the Ruzyně Airport with the Main
Train Station (Hlavní nádraží), which is on line C
of the metro. The ride takes about 40 minutes. The Airport Express bus is scheduled to
coincide with the arrivals and departures of SuperCity
(Pendolino), EuroCity and InterCity trains. You cannot use regular public transport tickets on Airport Express buses. Tickets can be purchased in the Visitor Centre at the Arrivals Hall or directly from the bus driver. Passengers travelling to the airport can buy their tickets from the driver, in the Information Centre of the Prague Public Transit Company or at the Czech Railways counter. A one-way ticket costs 100 CZK.
The Prague metro does not run from around 0:30 to 4:30 a.m. If you need to travel from the airport into town at night, you can take the night bus 910. It leaves every 30 minutes. After about 35 minutes on the bus, you'll arrive in the greater city center where you will be able to change to other night trams or buses if need be. These are some stops where you may want to get off: Švandovo divadlo, Arbesovo náměstí (both in the Smíchov district), Jiráskovo náměstí (near the Dancing House), Myslíkova (near Národní třída and Charles Square in the New Town), Štěpánská (near Wenceslas Square), I. P. Pavlova (Vinohrady district in Prague 2), Vyšehrad (near Vyšehrad and the Congress Center), Pražského povstání (Nusle district in Prague 4), Pankrác (Pankrác area in Prague 4).

Online Schedules and Connections
You can look up bus schedules at dpp.cz.
As the airport stop, enter 'Terminal 1' or 'Terminal
2'; the terminals are
only a few minutes apart from each other. Enter 'Nadrazi Veleslavin'
(bus 119) or 'Zlicin' (bus 100) as the metro station
to or from which you wish to travel. To
see schedules and connections beyond that metro station,
enter your destination or point of origin instead of
the metro station. E.g.
if you want to travel from the Prague airport to the
Old Town Square, enter 'Staromestska' in the To field. |
